Criteria for Mary MacDonald Distinguished Service Award

MARY MACDONALD DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD

This award was established in 1975.  The first presentation of the Mary MacDonald Distinguished Service Award was made in 1976 to Mary MacDonald, for whom the award is named.  The purpose of the Award is to honor those members of the American Physical Therapy Association of Massachusetts, past and present, who have significantly helped to advance the profession of physical therapy and who has selflessly provided distinguished service to the APTA MA, and to their community.  It is to be awarded whenever the APTA MA’s Board of Directors feels an appropriate individual should be so honored.

ELIGIBILITY

Recipient must be an active, active life, affiliate, or affiliate life member in good standing of the APTA MA.

CRITERIA

The recipient must have demonstrated consistent and outstanding service to the development and advancement of the profession of physical therapy through:

  1. Contribution in practice including, but not limited to: direct care; consultation; administration; liaison to other organizations; education which may include teaching in academic, clinical, in-service, continuing education, or the development of teaching methods; research which may include participation in laboratory, or clinical research, participation on editorial boards, published or otherwise disseminated results of research.
  2. Service to the development of the state and national professional organizations.
  3. Service to the community.


METHOD OF NOMINATION

  1. Nominees must be recommended for the award by an APTA MA member in good standing.
  2. Nomination form must be submitted with three letters of reference addressing the candidate’s contributions according to the criteria.  The nominees’ curriculum vitae must be included.
  3. Nominations must be submitted using the nomination form on website.


SELECTION

The Award will be presented to the recipient at the APTA MA’s Annual Conference. The recipient will receive a Paul Revere bowl engraved with the name of the award and the year in which it was presented.
