Continuing Competency Points
Join us for an engaging talk with Dr. Brooke N. Klatt, PT, DPT, PhD from the University of Pittsburgh, as she dives into the connections between aging, balance, and spatial navigation and the influence on fall risk. Consider how we as PTs, PTAs, and students interested in caring for neuro and geriatric populations, might be able to recognize and assess spatial navigation deficits. We will explore interventions using cognitive training, balance and vestibular rehabilitation, and virtual reality-based exercises to enhance the safety and mobility of our patients/clients.
Brooke N. Klatt, PT, DPT, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Physical Therapy Department at the University of Pittsburgh. She received her BS in Kinesiology from Penn State University; DPT from New York University; PhD in Rehabilitation Science from University of Pittsburgh; and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins University. During her post-doctoral fellowship, she investigated the interplay between vestibular and cognitive function. Dr. Klatt continues to investigate this line of research and in addition to cognition, is interested in exploring other factors that are associated with activity and participation in people with vestibular disorders. Dr. Klatt is currently funded by the National Institutes of Health to conduct her research aiming to optimize vestibular rehabilitation delivery and outcomes.
