Looking for mentorship? The Early Professional Special Interest Group (EPSIG) in conjunction with the DEI Committee is relaunching our mentorship matching program for mentees to be matched with willing mentors throughout the state. We are now beginning the recruitment process for our first cycle which will begin in April 2025. Below is some information about the program and on how to get started:
How will this work?
- An early professional within their first few years of practice will be matched with a PT/PTA with greater than 3 years of experience.
- Students within their last professional year of the PT/PTA program can also participate in the program. They will be matched with an early professional as a mentor.
- Early professionals have the option of becoming a mentee and/or a mentor, based on their interest.
- We also invite providers who have recently made a setting change or have recently pursued a speciality or certification.
What will my responsibilities be?
- Within the first quarter of matching, it is expected that the mentor and mentee have an in- person meeting, and will have some form of contact each month of the mentorship (this will be agreed upon by the pair).
- The mentee/mentor pair is required to attend at least one EPSIG event and one APTA of MA event within the year (i.e., Fall Conference, SIG events, district events, etc.).
- Participants are required to have a one-year time commitment to the program, with the option to extend their mentorship at the end of the year if interested.
Will I have support?
- The Mentorship Taskforce is currently updating our standards outline, so if you have any input we would appreciate hearing from you!
- Members of the Mentorship Taskforce will be planning on checking in quarterly throughout the year to see how the match is going. Zoom meetings will also be held for all who participate quarterly as a large group to work on conversation planning, discuss ways in which the Taskforce can better support it’s members.
