Now that the 2024 elections are behind us, it is time to focus on the 2025-26 session of the Massachusetts legislature. APTA MA continues to work on issues critical to our profession and our ability to treat our patients to the fullest extent of our education, but we need help. The Public Policy Committee is looking for volunteers to help us as we develop position papers, determine legislative and administrative strategies, work with the legislature and the Governor and recruit PTs, PTAs and PT / PTA students to engage in our work to protect and promote physical therapy.
Currently, we have heard the following priorities from members that we are looking to pursue this cycle:
- Legislative changes to allow PTs to order diagnostic imaging
- Removing PTA supervision restrictions
- Workers Compensation rate adjustments
- Addressing PT authorization and utilization restrictions
- Adding MA to the PT Compact
If you are willing to help on one of these issues, or there is something else you would like to explore, please send an email to aptama@libertysquaregroup.com. We’ll reach out to find out your interest and level of commitment. We need to make our presence felt both on Beacon Hill and with payers.
Speaking of payers, we have an exciting opportunity coming up in a couple of weeks. A free webinar, “Show Me the Money: Navigating the Future of Physical Therapy Payment” brings together experts around the country to discuss ways to compete in today’s payment environment. It is free of charge and will bring to the fore some strategies being implemented around the country by other Chapters. Click here for more information.
As always, feel free to reach out via email to this address and we’ll be sure to get back in touch. Thanks for support and I truly hope you’ll join us in this significant effort on behalf of the profession, your colleagues and our patients.
